Learn about our editorial policy Vincent Iannelli, MD Medically reviewed by a board-certified physician Updated on February 04, 2020 ADHD Overview Symptoms Causes Diagnosis Treatment Living With In Children Paul Bradbury / Getty Images While they are very convenient and work well for most children, once-a-day ADHD medicines can be rather expensive. Many families without insurance and prescription drug benefits cannot afford these medicines, which include Adderall XR, Daytrana, Concerta, or Vyvanse. Even with insurance coverage, high prices can be very taxing on a family budget. Generic ADHD Medications Choosing a generic medicine over a name-brand one is often a good way to save money on prescription drugs. Unfortunately, there are few inexpensive versions of these ADHD medicines that can be taken just once a day. There are generic versions of both Adderall and Ritalin, but they are short-acting and typically have to be taken at least twice a day. If you or your child is able to take a generic version, you will likely pay (before insurance or any coupons): Amphetamine salt combo (generic Adderall) $85 to $120 for 60 tabletsMethylphenidate (generic Ritalin) $75 to $90 for 60 tabletsDexmethylphenidate (generic Focalin) $85 to $100 for 60 tabletsAmphetamine salt combo XR (generic Adderall XR) $180 to $200 for 30 capsulesMethylphenidate ER (generic Concerta) $250 for 30 tabletsDexmethylphenidate XR (generic Focalin XR) $200 for 30 capsules Still, these are all bargains when you consider that a month of Vyvanse can cost well over $300. Saving Money on ADHD Medication In addition to choosing generic ADHD medication when you can, there are other money-saving strategies that may help. Shop Around Prices at different pharmacies can vary by $25 to $40 or more depending on the medication. Use a drug pricing site, such as GoodRx, to look for the best prices on your medications. Ask Your Doctor for Help Ask your pediatrician for a 90 day supply, which is sometimes a little cheaper (and also allows you to lock in a good price for three months if you find one). Talk with your doctor about avoiding name-brand ADHD medications without generics, such as Strattera, Vyvanse, Daytrana, and Quillivant XR. And remember that in some cases, your doctor can give you free samples of medicines so you can try them and see if they work for your child. Look for Coupons or Patient Assistance Programs Coupons are available for many name brand ADHD medications that dont have generic versions. You can find coupons on GoodRx or by checking the manufacturers website. Manufacturers may have their own patient assistance programs, or you can check to see if you are eligible for a broader prescription assistance program, such as NeedyMeds. Get a Prescription Discount Card Prescription drug discount cards are similar to patient assistance programs in that they can help reduce the prices of many drugs you purchase. You can use them as a supplement to any insurance coverage you have and some, such as FamilyWize, are open to anyone, regardless of income. Use Caution Dont try to save money by ordering an ADHD medication from an illegal or foreign website, which will simply put your child at risk. In addition to getting scammed out of your money, you may receive a contaminated or counterfeit product, the wrong product, or an incorrect dose. Also avoid unproven or non-evidence based treatments, which will likely end up costing you more in the long run.

Slavery and the Old South

Slavery was characterized by poverty and forced labor. Slaves never had freedom and rarely enjoyed material comfort beyond the bare basic needs. Their lives were characterized by diseases, suffering, and poor diet. They were subjected to hard labor with beatings that reflected the authority of their masters.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Slavery and the Old South specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Their housing were majorly crowded with poor sanitation. The routines of work consisted of long working hours. They experienced both physical and mental torture since their masters employed force and violence to obtain what they required from them. The nature of slavery worsened because they received poor treatment that lead to high death rates. The major cause of the changes in slavery was the hatred towards oppression (Goldfield, et. al, 39).The changes occurred in the attitudes of the slaves towards the white in the South. There was a general feeling of antagonism and resistance. They saw their master as people who used them as beasts of burden; hence, suspicion and resentment among the slaves grew into hatred. The culture of the slaves greatly influenced their lives of being defiant. They were also influenced by the African culture that they maintained. They believed in the spirits, and made their accomplishments in music and dance. They believed in religion and their families served as a source of support. However, their families were disintegrated by the sale of their members. The slaves tried to defy the slavery system and used religion as a tool to support the revolt. Faith sustained them and enhanced a sense of racial identity. The resistance to slavery was through fearless revolts. The consequences of rebellion were important to the slaves in various ways. Most of them got an opportunity to become literate by knowing how to read and write (Goldfield, et. al, 54). The geography of the Sou th greatly influenced the revolts; however, the militias were prepared to suppress the revolt. This experience changed the slaves’ actions. The freed slaves worked as manual laborers and changed various working sites. Furthermore, the rebellion also included theft and runaways. Due to the increase in political conflict between the North and the South, fears increased over the slave rebellion which led to increased restrictions on the slaves. Fugitive slaves were captured, aided by the Law that also required that those who never owned slaves to support the slavery system. The manufacturers in the South felt the impact of using the slaves. Slave ownership was translated into political power and it was a basis of wealth and free standing. It guaranteed wealth due to the production of cotton in large scale. Hence, it was held as an investment and a commodity since slaves were highly valued ((Goldfield, et. al, 57).Advertising Looking for essay on history? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More In conclusion, the slave system was embedded into the economic development of the South. However, the conflict in slave ownership led to antislavery movements. The end of the row between the slave owners and non-slave owners narrowed down slavery. This aggravated the risks in entering into the cotton business since the cost of the slaves increased. The slave system was finally abolished due to the thought that the system weakened the economy of many whites and the South. Slavery in the South declined due to immigration that provided cheap labor. There were more revolts against oppression that led to abolitionists, expansion westwards that made slave codes harsher. 7 Steps to Know If Youre in the Right Job

7 Steps to Know If Youre in the Right Job Do you spend a lot of time moaning about your job? Worrying that you maybe picked the wrong career? That your dream job is still out there somewhere and you’re stuck in a rut? We all complain about our jobs- and the grass is almost always greener somewhere else. But there’s a difference between something called â€Å"job depression† and actually being in the wrong career. Our brains tend to do three things that can be poisonous to our job satisfaction: distort, delete, and generalize. It’s easy to distort our own view of what we do. It’s easy to delete the fun, rewarding parts when complaining about all the tasks we hate. And it’s easy to draw global conclusions when we focus on the negative. If you want to know whether you actually hate your job- or have just convinced yourself to hate it through your own complaining- here are seven steps you can take:1. Assess your job.How do you think and talk about your job? Does your gut response really re flect how you feel about the work you do?2. Listen to yourself. How often do you complain about the parts of your job that you don’t like?3. Accentuate the positive.Take a moment and make a list of all the things you like about your job. Really think about the tasks and aspects of your work that you enjoy.4. Give your job a break. There’s no such thing as the perfect job. Try to remember that even your dream job would involve at least a few tasks that aren’t your favorite things to do.5. Keep track.Make a list of every task you do for two weeks and then rate each one on a scale of 1 to 10. At the end of two weeks, the numbers will not lie.6. Remember your strengths. What are your best, most unique skills? Does your job give you the opportunity to make best use of them?7.  Reassess your job.By now, you should have a pretty clear idea of how you really feel about your job. What percentage of your job do you actually hate? Does the number surprise you?You probably r eally do like your job- or most of it. Or maybe you’ve realized that you like some aspects of your job, but that you’re not satisfied overall. If the negatives really do outweigh the positives, then maybe it’s time to stop complaining and start looking for another job! Either way, it’s important to connect with how you really feel and not let your bad psychology get the better of you.
